GUARDING YOUR HEART 4: DISTRACTION
JAKE STIMPSON | VICTORY | HEART | FREEDOM | MARY | MARTHA | DISTRACTION
In the Gospels, we find the story of two sisters, Mary and Martha. Jesus comes to their home, and Mary is so in awe that she breaks cultural norms to sit at the feet of Jesus and hear Him teach. Martha, busy getting things ready for Jesus, is distracted and annoyed at her sister. It’s easy to sympathize with Martha, who was just trying to get things done, but in her busyness, she missed out on the greatest gift of all, the fact that Jesus Himself was in her home. In the midst of endless opportunities to be distracted, we’ve got to guard our hearts or we too will miss the one thing that really matters, knowing Jesus.

“The world is a magical place full of people waiting to be offended by something.” It’s a great line from a meme that’s been circulating for a while now. Offense has the potential to lodge in your heart and derail you in your walk with God. So what do we do? How do we walk free from offense? The answers are probably simpler than you expect.

GUARDING YOUR HEART 2: HARDNESS
JAKE STIMPSON | VICTORY | HEART | HARDNESS | PHARISEES | CALLOUSED
The Bible tells us about a group of Jews who loved God and were devoted to His Word. They were concerned about the increasing worldliness around them. They refused to compromise on the truth and were committed to holy living. And yet, when Jesus came, they were the most antagonistic toward Him, to the point of even making plans to murder Him. These were the Pharisees. What happened to cause these God-fearing people to turn against Jesus? Their hearts had grown hard. If it happened to them, it could happen to us too. We must remain on guard to keep our hearts soft.

The Proverbs advise us, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” (Prov 4:23) If your heart is good, everything that comes out of you will be good. If there is a problem in your heart, no matter how much good God tries to do for you, all you’ll see is problems. A key to victory in life is guarding our hearts. And what’s one of the most dangerous tools the Enemy uses to get into our hearts? Discouragement.
