On November 7, 1791, .America experienced what some historians call its most decisive military defeat ever. American troops went into battle with superior numbers and better arms – victory seemed guaranteed – which made the ensuing defeat all the more catastrophic. What happened? Major Denny, one of the few survivors, pointed out the problem: “a [lack of] knowledge of the collected force and situations of the enemy; of this we were perfectly ignorant.” We are engaged in a spiritual war for our souls.
